So, I may have accidentally written a children’s b So, I may have accidentally written a children’s book. Or three. It turns out my little writing project to try and stretch my post-stroke creative muscles, morphed into a small series about a curious tuxedo cat called Mixy, a nervous mouse called Pip, and a tiny lantern keeper named Luma, a Glowling who lives behind the garden shed. The first book is called Mixy the Garden Detective: The Mystery of the Midnight Glow and it is now live on Amazon in paperback and on Kindle Unlimited. The chapters are short on purpose. Properly short. The kind where “one more chapter pleeease” really does mean five more minutes, not a full bedtime renegotiation. Each chapter also has a natural stopping point, which makes it ideal for calm evening reading, or for children beginning to read longer stories on their own. It’s gentle, cosy, slightly mysterious, and in addition to Mixy, Pip and Luma, it involves a grumpy toad, a cool beetle, and a very determined magpie. So if you know a small human aged about 5 to 9 who likes animals, secret doors, tiny magical creatures, or gardens that are clearly keeping secrets after dark, I would be very grateful if you shared it with them.
