After seeing all the posts in the last two weeks about super-stressed kids facing their SATS, I am very relieved that (being home-educated) it's not something we have to go through.

I know parents who have been horrified by the amount of pressure their children have put on themselves for these exams. No child should be losing sleep, dealing with crippling anxiety, or giving themselves stomach aches over a set of exams. It's heartbreaking.

That said, we want to wish all of Miss A's mainstream school friends the very best of luck this week. You can do this! Just remember, it's just one school week, one set of exams and it doesn't (and won't!) define you as a learner, or as people.

Try your best, it's all anyone can ask of you...and all you can ask of yourselves.

You've got this!

Penne Boscaiola, the dinner I have been missing most. The noodles are not exactly like pasta, but with the creamy sauce, I didn't care.

Watching the snow come down outside, as I sit here

Watching the snow come down outside, as I sit here with a hot cup of coffee and a cat asleep on my lap. The snow is swirling in large messy flurries; building up on the roof, the cars, and the grass. It looks like it might settle.

We get them so infrequently, that I think today is just made for a low-key home ed 'snow day'. Time to decompress, stay warm, and leave Mother Nature to do her thing. There are books to finish reading and I think tucked up under a cosy blanket is the perfect place for that.

Stay safe on the roads this morning all, it's a little slippery out there.

We all have a sweet tooth, some more than others, and when those cravings hit, we usually go for the quickest and easiest option, which is usually something pre-made, high in sugar, and chock full of carbs.

Sadly for me, sugar and carbs are now the enemy, so I have had to make some adaptations to ensure that I can still have wonderful baked goods, but without the damage sugar and carbs will cause to my health.

These are the people we stood on our doorsteps and clapped for. We called them, rightfully, heroes and said we'd never forget them.
Our memories, it seems, are so very, very short. They are screaming for help, and no one is listening.

Just a reminder, if you're unwell and it's not a life-threatening emergency, or it's something that can be dealt with outside of a hospital then please, save yourself a 12-15+hr wait in A&E and use NHS 111, the NHS Online service http://nhs.111.uk , your GP or speak to your pharmacist.

“I'm writing this because I’m angry. Actually more than that, I’m livid. I’m an A&E reg with 9+ years experience in A&E both here and overseas. This morning was the first time EVER that I cried in my car after a shift.
I was on nights over this New Years period, but New Year was not the issue, every shift is like this now.
Where 5 years ago we had 50 patients in the department on handover at night, we now have 180. It used to be around 20 patients to see with a 1-2 hour wait for clinician, it’s now 60-70 with a 10 hour wait.
People used to lose their minds if patients were coming up to 4 hour breaches. Last night 60% of the patients in A&E had been there for more than 12 hours, some for more than 40. Many I saw the night before, still in the same place when I came on.
